About Martiros Saryan

Martiros Sargsi Saryan was born on February 16 (28), 1880, in Nor Nakhichevan. He is a famous Armenian artist. He has also been called the master of colors or the wizard of colors.Martiros Saryan’s ancestors migrated to Crimea, from where their descendants moved to Nor Nakhichevan.In 1895, Saryan graduated from the Armenian-Russian general school of Nor Nakhichevan, in 1903, from the schools of painting, sculpture and architecture in Moscow, he improved in the portrait studio of Valentin Serov and Konstantin Korovin. During the years of study, he created the portraits of his mother Ustian Saryan (1898), Sofia Miansaryan (1903), “Self-Portrait”, “Mayravank” (both 1902) and other works.In 1901, Saryan visited Yerevan, Ashtarak, Vagharshapat, Sevan for the first time, and in 1902 — Ani.”Nature creates man in order to see itself and admire itself through man. Saryan was the person who considered a miracle what many of us don’t even notice: color. “I dream about color, color is a real miracle,” said Saryan. “And in sunlight, color shows the soul of what we see and the essence of cosmic existence.” When we hear about Saryan, I am sure that the first thing that comes to our mind is the color.
